, ,Applicants should have a passion and enthusiasm for working with elementary school students as well as a desire to invest in their spiritual lives. A love of learning should be evident in the applicant's life, and he/she must wish to foster the same in his/her students. Duties will include:
- Motivate students to accept God's gift of salvation and help them grow in their faith through their witness and Christian role modeling.
- Cooperate with administration in implementing policies and procedures governing the school.
- Teach classes as assigned following curriculum.
- Integrate Biblical principles and the Christian philosophy of education throughout the curriculum and activities.
- Keep proper discipline in the classroom and on the school premises for a good learning environment.
- Maintain a clean, attractive, well-ordered classroom.
- Plan broadly through the use of semester and quarterly plans and objectives.
- Plan a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students, challenging each to his/her potential.
- Utilize valid teaching techniques to achieve curriculum goals within the framework of the school's philosophy.
- Assess the learning of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.
- Recognize the need for good public relations. Represent the school in a favorable and professional manner to the school's constituency and the general public.
- Develop and maintain rapport with students, parents, and staff by treating others with friendliness, dignity, and consideration.
- Follow the Matthew 18 principle in dealing with conflict with students, parents, staff, and administration.
- Seek the counsel of the administrator, colleagues, and parents while maintaining a teachable attitude.
- Attend and participate in scheduled activities, in-service, retreats, committee, faculty, and Parent Teacher meetings.
- Know the procedures for dealing with issues of an emergency nature.
- Inform the administration in a timely manner if unable to fulfill any duty assigned. Prepare adequate information and materials for a substitute teacher.
- Other duties as assigned by the administration or necessary to run a safe and Godly school.
Requirements
- Possess a deep love for Christ and for students.
- B.A. or B.S. degree from a recognized University or College.
- Hold or pursuing appropriate professional credential, certification and degree.
- Two years teaching is required for all non-Brazilian citizens and permanent residents to qualify for a work visa.
About Amazon Valley Academy
AVA was founded in 1958 as a missionary school for foreign missionaries serving in northern Brazil and is presently managed by Believer’s Bridge, a U.S. mission organization. Over the years enrollment expanded to include Brazilian nationals. Today about 75% of the student body is comprised of Brazilian students. AVA is accredited by ACSI and MSA.
